The aim is to increase the PNC membership to at least 90,000, said Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works Adam Shareef Umar today.
Minister Adam Shareef was speaking at the PNC headquarters before the launch of the campaign aimed at boosting membership for the ruling PNC.
He highlighted that President Dr. Muizzu’s original goal was to reach around 75,000 members. However, the party leadership and its supporters have set their sights higher, aiming for 95,000 or even 100,000 members, he said.
“The goal is to become the strongest party in the country within a year, setting a record that no other party has ever achieved,” Minister Adam Shareef said.
The Minister also emphasized that the party’s growth would be achieved through democratic processes and assured that no undue influence would be exerted on anyone to join the PNC.
The campaign to increase membership will target seven regions across the country, in addition to the Greater Malé area.
According to the Election Commission, the PNC currently has 28,983 members. However, the party reports that the membership has now grown to 65,000.
