Former MP for Ha. Dhidhdhoo, Abdulla Waheed, has criticized the government’s budget for next year as “disappointing,” claiming it lacks substance and fails to address the needs of the people.
Speaking to local media, Waheed expressed frustration, saying the budget seems designed for the President and ministers alone, not for the people. He suggested that the government’s promises have been neglected and questioned its accountability, adding the government acts as if the people won’t notice the truth.
He questioned what projects the budget would specifically address: "They call it an optimistic budget, but what exactly does it provide for each island? Where is the hope? The councils budget cannot address the real needs of the people."
The government presented a budget of MVR 56.6 billion last month, focusing on housing, which it described as a vital sector closely tied to the well-being of citizens.
