Vice President Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef has reaffirmed the pivotal role of innovation in national development, emphasizing it as a cornerstone of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's vision for the Maldives.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Maldives MSME Awards 2025, the Vice President highlighted the critical contributions of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to the country’s economic growth.

Organized by the Business Centre Corporation (BCC), the event celebrates the achievements of MSMEs and individual businesses across the Maldives. In his address, Vice President Latheef described small and medium enterprises (SMEs) as the backbone of the nation’s economy, noting their role in job creation, fostering innovation, and driving sustainable development.

He highlighted the significant contributions of entrepreneurs, commending their sacrifices and dedication to building resilience, prosperity, and progress for the nation. The Vice President also pointed to the evolving global economy and the emerging opportunities in art, digital markets, and international trade, stressing the importance of equipping Maldivian entrepreneurs with the skills and resources needed to navigate these new dimensions.

While acknowledging progress in supporting SMEs, he called for more targeted efforts in areas such as financial assistance, technical training, and legal concessions to empower businesses and ensure their sustainable growth.

The highlight of the event was the official launch of the Maldives MSME Awards 2025. The awards aim to recognize the vital role of Maldivian businesses in promoting sustainable economic development, rewarding excellence at both national and international levels.
