Vice President His Excellency Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef has departed for an official visit to China to participate in the ‘Third China-Indian Ocean Region Forum on Blue Economy Development Cooperation,’ scheduled from December 15-17, 2024. The forum will take place in Kunming, Yunnan Province, where the Maldives is co-hosting the event.
Organized by the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), the forum aims to strengthen cooperation between China and countries in the Indian Ocean region. The focus will be on various aspects of the blue economy, with discussions on critical issues such as climate change and sustainable development.
The theme of the third forum, ‘Future of the Blue Indian Ocean: Development Practices of the Global South,’ will feature a series of thematic discussions, sub-forums, and roundtable sessions, bringing together global participants to explore mutual interests and share knowledge.
At the invitation of the Government of China, the Vice President will deliver a statement during the forum's opening ceremony. The Vice President also participated in the second China-Indian Ocean Region Forum, held in China in December 2023.
