The Meteorological Department said last night that a record amount of rain fell in Male' within an hour during the continuous rainfall that began yesterday morning.
An official from the department said that 160 millimeters of rain fell in Male' during the past 24 hours yesterday. He said that the heaviest rainfall occurred between 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM yesterday, which was 60 millimeters of rain.
According to him, 60 millimeters within an hour is a record amount.
The Met Office said that Male' and Hulhule received heavy rainfall within 24 hours. He said that during that time, Hulhule received 163 millimeters of rain while Male' received 160 millimeters of rain.
The highest amount of rainfall recorded in Male' so far is approximately 200 millimeters.
In that past 24 hours, various parts of the Maldives have experienced storms, and houses have been flooded.
The Met Office said that the next 24 hours will also bring storms to different parts of the Maldives. As it will rain on Sunday as well, the weather is expected to start improving from next Monday.
