Former President Mohamed Nasheed has stated that he has no intention of working in any political party at the moment.

In a Facebook post today, Nasheed addressed speculation about his political future following the return of several senior members of The Democrats, a party he led, to the Maldives Democratic Party (MDP). Their move sparked rumors that he, too, might rejoin the MDP.

Nasheed emphasized that he has dedicated much of his life to establishing a multi-party system in the country. He highlighted the economic growth, infrastructure development, and social security improvements that followed the 2008 elections as proof of the benefits of a competitive political environment.

He clarified that he does not oppose any political party, adding that the MDP remains close to him, describing it as "like his child." He also noted that The Democrats was formed to provide young people with a platform to engage in politics.

Nasheed reiterated that, for now, he does not wish to be actively involved in any party. He also pointed out that some political issues are not adequately addressed under existing laws.

Currently residing abroad as the head of an international environmental organization, Nasheed continues to express his views on national issues while maintaining his distance from direct political involvement.
