The no-confidence motion filed by the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) against Minister Ali Ihusaan is unlikely to succeed, according to Ibrahim Falah, the Parliamentary Group leader of the People’s National Congress (PNC).

Falah emphasized that the motion lacks the necessary support and will not pass, as members of the PNC and the Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) are expected to vote in line with their respective party directives. He stated that no PNC members would back the motion and that the MDP is aware of its slim chances of success.

The MDP has accused Minister Ihusaan of attempting to use the Department of National Registration (DNR) database to increase PNC membership numbers. However, the minister has denied the allegations, calling them baseless.

Falah suggested that the MDP’s accusations are a reaction to the PNC’s growing membership base, which he claimed has reached 75,000 through dedicated efforts. He dismissed the allegations as an attempt by the MDP to undermine the PNC’s progress.

The no-confidence motion, signed by 12 MDP parliamentary group members, is expected to be debated and voted on soon. However, Falah remains confident that it will not succeed, given the lack of cross-party support.
