Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal has announced that efforts to resolve the issues surrounding Shangri-La Resort will be completed this year, paving the way for its reopening.

In an interview with PSM, Minister Faisal shared updates on the progress, revealing that the Attorney General's Office has issued a notice to Shangri-La, a key step in addressing the situation. He assured that a solution is expected within 2025.

Highlighting the significance of expanding tourism in Addu City, Faisal emphasized the importance of establishing regular international flights to the city. Work is actively underway to achieve this goal, he added.

“Special priority is being given to reopening Shangri-La and ensuring consistent international flights to Addu City,” Faisal stated, noting the critical role these developments play in the region’s economic growth.

Shangri-La Resort, the largest in Addu City, has remained closed since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, leaving many without jobs and impacting the local economy.

Reopening the resort is among President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s key pledges, aimed at revitalizing Addu’s tourism sector and restoring employment opportunities for the community.
