President Donald Trump has confirmed that the United States launched airstrikes on three major Iranian nuclear sites on Saturday evening, marking a dramatic escalation in the ongoing Middle East conflict and the first direct American attack on Iran’s nuclear infrastructure in decades.
In a series of posts on Truth Social, Trump announced that US forces had successfully bombed Iran’s Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan nuclear facilities. "A full payload of BOMBS was dropped on the primary site, Fordow," he wrote, describing the strikes as a "very successful attack."
Trump declared the mission complete and claimed all US aircraft had exited Iranian airspace. He ended his statement with a call for peace, stating, “Now is the time for peace!” and announcing he would address the nation at 10 p.m. ET.
The US military used B-2 bombers in the operation, reportedly deploying Massive Ordnance Penetrators — bunker-busting bombs — to target Iran's fortified underground sites. These strikes are considered the most aggressive US military action against Iran since the 1979 revolution.
While Trump said he currently does not plan additional military action, the US remains on high alert as Iran has vowed to respond. According to sources, the president hopes the strikes will pressure Tehran to return to negotiations and bring an end to hostilities.
The White House confirmed that Israel was informed in advance of the strikes, and Trump spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu shortly after the operation.
This marks a defining moment in Trump’s second term, signaling a decisive shift from diplomacy to military intervention in US-Iran relations.
