President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has called on the residents of Fainu Island to support the government’s plans to develop an airport on the island.

The appeal was made during a meeting with the Fainu Island Council, the Women’s Development Committee (WDC), and institutional leaders at Fainu School on Thursday.

During the discussions, the Council highlighted several pressing issues faced by the community. Transportation challenges were a significant concern, with the Council urging the government to establish a comprehensive transportation system to enhance connectivity. They also raised concerns about the lack of space at the island’s harbour, requesting the President’s intervention to address the issue.

Expressing gratitude to the government, the Council commended the successful completion of key infrastructure projects, including the water and sewerage network and upgrades to Fainu School.

President Muizzu, joined by Cabinet Ministers on his tour, provided further insights into the government’s planned projects for Fainu. He assured the residents that the administration is committed to addressing their concerns while advancing the development of the airport and other infrastructure initiatives.
