The Maldives Police Service has denied claims that the recently announced salary increases for police officers have not been paid, calling such reports false.

In a statement issued today, the police clarified that the government has implemented the 35% salary increment promised by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, effective from April 2024. The revised salary includes the basic salary along with position, job, and work-related allowances.

The police noted that while regular officers have received the increased pay, members of the Special Constabulary serve under separate contractual agreements and are compensated according to those terms. However, new agreements for Special Constabulary officers also include the updated salary structure.

The pay rise, announced by President Muizzu on March 19, 2024, marks the first major adjustment to police salaries since 2009, when a similar change was made during President Mohamed Nasheed’s administration.
