First Lady Madam Sajidha Mohamed highlighted the vital role of women's health in building strong families, thriving communities, and a resilient nation during her remarks at the Closing Ceremony of the Hiyala 2025 Surgical Workshop held at Dharumavantha Hospital on Wednesday evening.

The workshop, titled Empowering Women’s Health: Through State-of-the-Art Minimally Invasive Surgery, focused on advancing surgical expertise to provide women with safer, more effective medical treatments. Speaking as the Chief Guest, the First Lady stressed the importance of ensuring Maldivians receive the highest quality healthcare.

She noted that nearly every woman experiences some form of gynecological issue during their lifetime and that gynecological surgeries are among the most common procedures performed in the Maldives. Highlighting the need for tailored and minimally invasive surgical techniques, the First Lady called for continuous advancements to improve women’s overall well-being and quality of life.

She also emphasized the need for healthcare professionals to provide holistic care, addressing both the physical and emotional needs of patients. "Empowering women’s health means offering care that respects and honors their unique experiences and challenges," she stated.

The First Lady underscored the struggles faced by women undergoing invasive procedures that often lead to prolonged recovery, unnecessary pain, and complications. She encouraged prioritizing advancements that minimize potential risks and ensure swift recovery, enabling women to resume their roles as mothers, leaders, entrepreneurs, and activists.

The workshop brought together medical professionals from Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), Tree Top Hospital (TTH), and Hulhumale’ Hospital, focusing on equipping healthcare providers with cutting-edge surgical techniques to enhance women’s healthcare in the Maldives.
