Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan has announced plans to introduce a modern digital ID card system designed to alert citizens if their personal information is accessed.
During the "Presidential Statement 2025 Forum" broadcast on state media, Ihusaan revealed that the new ID card will adhere to international standards and provide enhanced security features. He stated that the system will require agencies or private entities to obtain consent from cardholders before accessing their information.
The minister emphasized that the system would also allow individuals to track who accessed their information and for what purpose, ensuring transparency and accountability in data management.
The announcement comes in the wake of recent concerns over unauthorized access to personal data, including allegations involving the use of the DNR database to register members for the ruling People's National Congress (PNC). The PNC has denied these accusations.
