Minority Leader of Parliament and Hithadhoo South MP Ibrahim Nazil has stated that the Maldives is experiencing a breakdown in the rule of law and moving towards an authoritarian regime.

MP Ibrahim Nazil made these remarks while addressing Parliament today in response to the Presidential Statement delivered at the opening of Parliament this year.

Speaking at Parliament today, Nazil strongly criticized the presidential statement delivered at the opening of Parliament this year, describing it as misleading and disappointing. He argued that the statement failed to address the country’s pressing economic and financial issues, further disheartening the public. According to Nazil, the statement lacked clear policies to tackle economic challenges and was filled with deception, making it one of the most misleading presidential addresses he has ever heard.

Nazil pointed out that the statement did not reflect the actual situation in the Maldives, warning that the country’s democracy was on the wrong path. He claimed that key issues were ignored while imaginary narratives were created, accusing the government of misleading Parliament.

He further criticized the administration for failing to secure financial stability, stating that it was not making efforts to properly finance the budget while also breaking its promise of avoiding further debt. He highlighted growing public anxiety and the struggles of small and medium enterprises, attributing these issues to the government's mismanagement.
