The Maldives National University (MNU) has decided to establish an outreach campus of its Fisheries College in Kolamafushi, Gaafu Alif Atoll.

The Kolamafushi Council has already allocated 15,000 acres of land for the college, and an agreement was signed between the council and MNU. The agreement was signed on behalf of MNU by Aishath Shehnaz Adam.

According to MNU, the Kolamafushi campus will focus on fisheries research, hands-on training for students, and international-level academic work. The initiative is expected to bring significant economic, social, and environmental benefits to Kolamafushi and the broader Huvadhoo Atoll region.

The Fisheries College was established by the Ministry of Fisheries and MNU to develop skilled professionals in the field of fisheries. The agreement for the new campus was signed on December 23.

The education provided at the Fisheries College aims to maximize the sustainable use of the Maldives' fisheries and marine resources. Courses will be offered in marine biology, oceanography, marine spatial planning, marine ecosystem assessment and management, and fisheries management.

The Fisheries College began offering courses in August last year.
