The Children’s Ombudsman’s Office has strongly condemned the remarks made by a protester at the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) rally held on Thursday night.

During the protest, MDP activist Mariam Zubair, Mandi, made a speech targeting President Mohamed Muizzu, which included allegations involving his son. The Ombudsman’s Office stated that the remarks violated the constitutional rights of children to special protection and assistance.

In a statement released today, the Children’s Ombudsman emphasized that the Constitution ensures the protection of children's rights, including their dignity, and guarantees the freedom of expression. However, the Office also condemned any speech that could harm a child's reputation or dignity, especially when such comments were made at a political event.

The statement further condemned the incident, pointing out that the remarks were broadcast by a registered media outlet in the Maldives, raising concerns about the ethical implications of broadcasting such content.

The Ombudsman’s Office called for respect and caution when discussing sensitive matters related to children in public forums.
