Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan has pledged swift action to address the poor condition of the Green Building, which currently houses the National Drug Agency (NDA).
During a visit to the building on Wednesday, Minister Ihusaan stated that the structure is in a state of severe disrepair and is not suitable for the agency’s operations. He said that a new building will be constructed on the same plot to provide a long-term solution.
He added that the NDA’s core work—especially efforts to reduce the demand for drugs—requires proper infrastructure and support. With upgraded facilities, the agency will be better equipped to carry out its mission.
Minister Ihusaan also revealed that the government’s primary infrastructure goal for this year is to enhance facilities related to drug rehabilitation. New rehabilitation centers are already underway in Villingili, L. Gan, and Thulusdhoo.
He concluded his visit by expressing gratitude to NDA staff for their role in addressing the nation’s drug-related challenges and contributing to the government’s efforts in creating a healthier, more resilient society.
