The family of 21-year-old Hawwa Yumnu Rasheed says she has not been officially asked by authorities to give a statement regarding the incident in which she was found critically injured after reportedly falling from the ninth floor of a building in Henveiru on April 18

Their statement comes after police claimed they were working with Malaysian authorities to obtain Yumnu’s statement, alleging non-cooperation from her family. Police also said two Maldivian officers have been in Malaysia since Yumnu was taken there for treatment.

In a letter sent to the Maldives Police Service today, the family said police had shared misleading information with the media and accused authorities of prematurely concluding that Yumnu had fallen on her own. They expressed concern over the impartiality of the investigation but stated they have not obstructed any lawful inquiries.

The letter, signed by Yumnu’s sister Aishath Naisha Ahmed Rasheed, said the family had not received any formal written request from police to take Yumnu’s statement. It also noted that Chief Inspector Dr. Hassan Umair met with Yumnu’s family in Malaysia for about an hour and a half, but no official request for medical or health-related information was made.

The family reiterated that Yumnu remains unfit to provide a statement, citing medical documents. They maintained their willingness to cooperate with any official request made through proper channels.

The incident remains under investigation by both police and the Presidential Commission. However, the circumstances surrounding Yumnu’s fall have not been publicly clarified.

After regaining consciousness, Yumnu reportedly denied jumping voluntarily. According to her family, four individuals were present at the time of the incident, including Raud Ahmed Zilal and Yoosuf Yassar Abdul Ghafoor.

The investigation is ongoing.
