The President’s Office has dismissed Dawood Ahmed, Under Secretary for Digital Strategy, for providing a false statement to the Presidential Commission investigating the fall of Hawwa Yumna Rasheed from a building in Malé.

Presidential Spokesperson Heena Waleed confirmed via X that Dawood, who is also a cousin of Raud Ahmed Zilal — a key figure in the case — was terminated after the commission found discrepancies in his testimony.

According to the commission’s report released yesterday, Dawood falsely claimed that he had no contact with any senior government officials regarding the case. However, evidence submitted by Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan confirmed that Dawood had spoken to him multiple times on the day of the incident. The report also detailed communications and transactions between Dawood and the minister.

The commission further stated that Dawood met Raud the night after the incident, contradicting his claim that Raud had not shared any information. The commission concluded that Dawood knowingly gave false statements and showed negligence, warranting further investigation by relevant agencies.

The special commission was appointed by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to investigate the April 18 incident involving Yumna’s fall from a high-rise building.
