The Prosecutor General’s Office (PG) has filed charges against Raud Ahmed Zilal in connection with the April 18 fall of Hawwa Yumnu Rasheed from the roof of a warehouse in Malé City.

Raud, arrested on April 25 under a court order, is accused of failing to assist a person in need without reasonable cause — a charge that carries a jail sentence of one month and six days. The case was submitted to the Criminal Court last week.

According to the PG, Raud was present on the stairwell of the H. Fentenoy residence with Yumnu at the time of the incident. Despite knowing she had fallen onto the roof, he neither helped her nor alerted the authorities.

Court documents state there had been a dispute between the two on the day of the incident. Raud had also reportedly told someone about Yumnu’s fall shortly after it happened.

While police initially ruled out foul play, Raud was later arrested for obstructing the investigation. He also tested positive for cannabis during the investigation.
