The death penalty for drug traffickers is already a policy in many low-crime countries, according to Holhudhoo MP Abdul Sattar Mohamed.

Speaking during a local media program, he said the government plans to amend existing legislation to allow capital punishment for those involved in selling and trafficking drugs, noting that governments have the authority to enforce such measures.

Sattar acknowledged concerns over the lack of executions for individuals already sentenced, explaining that each case has its own considerations and circumstances. He pointed out that countries implementing the death penalty for drug crimes have reported positive results in reducing crime rates.

He affirmed that the government would not hesitate to amend the law and apply it in cases where convictions are upheld at all stages of the judicial process.
