Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has stated that Hajj quotas are not granted to any specific family, and the Maldives Hajj Corporation follows rules that prevent favoritism.
Speaking in Parliament today in response to a question from Vikaradhoo MP Hussain Ziyad, Dr. Shaheem said that out of the 1,000 Hajj quotas allocated to the Maldives this year, 850 places were given to individuals in the Hajj Corporation’s queue, while 50 were allocated by the President. Under President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s pledge, some of these spots were given to low-income pilgrims at government expense.
He added that the remaining 100 slots were assigned to caretakers of the sick, people with serious illnesses who requested to expedite their pilgrimage, and essential service providers such as doctors and cooks.
Dr. Shaheem stressed that the corporation does not provide opportunities based on family connections, and all allocations are made in accordance with established regulations.
