The Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) has stated that it has no jurisdiction to investigate PNC Prosecutor General Leader Ibrahim Falah’s call to execute journalists during yesterday’s parliamentary session.
The commission clarified that cases involving individuals privileged under the Constitution and law fall outside its authority. However, it emphasized that no one should speak in a way that undermines the human dignity of others, whether inside Parliament or elsewhere.
The HRCM also expressed concern over Falah’s remarks and noted that statements of this nature should not be made, especially when the targeted individual does not have an opportunity to respond.
Following Falah’s statements, Sports Ministry Senior Political Director Ibrahim Saeed (Cade) was dismissed today for publicly opposing the call to arrest journalists.
