Former Vice President Faisal Naseem has said that Addu City can achieve greater progress through unity and cooperation among its people.
Faisal made the remarks in a message shared on social media following a meeting with members of the Addu City Council. During the meeting, council members briefed him on ongoing development projects and highlighted challenges faced by residents, including frequent power outages and delays in key infrastructure works.
He noted that most of the road development and modernization projects initiated during the MDP government had been completed, but some phases remain pending. Faisal also stressed the importance of developing tourism to strengthen Addu City’s economy and expressed confidence that the city would continue to advance through collective effort and solidarity.
Meanwhile, the vote to change the composition of the Addu City Council is scheduled for October 25. According to Elections Commission Chairman Zahid, over 9,000 people from Hithadhoo, Meedhoo, and Feydhoo are eligible to vote.
Voters will be asked whether new councils should be formed for specific wards or whether certain areas should be managed jointly under one council.
