The Tourism Ministry of the Maldives has stated that over 12,000 employees in the tourism sector have received their first doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.

As per the statistics of the ministry, so far a total of 12,793 workers at the frontline of the tourism sector have received their first doses of the Covid-19 vaccine. This includes 306 employees from guest houses, 214 employees from safari’s, and 70 people working in City Hotels. In addition to this, 64 musicians, 24 travel agents, and 67 people working at the frontline of the Tourism Ministry.

The Tourism Ministry has previously announced the expansion of the vaccination drive to the resorts in line with the permits by HPA. Vaccination of frontline workers in resorts rolled out on February 14, beginning with Bandos Maldives Resort. So far, over 50 resort doctors have been trained for the administration of the vaccine.

The Maldives began its nationwide Covid-19 vaccination campaign on February 01. Since then, over 218,000 people across the Maldives have been vaccinated.
