President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has sent a message of condolence to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice-President, Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Ruler of Dubai, following the passing of his brother, His Highness Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Minister of Finance of UAE and Deputy Ruler of Dubai.
In his message, the President also stated that His Highness Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum will be remembered as a wise and accomplished statesman who contributed greatly to Dubai’s success and his loss will be felt throughout the United Arab Emirates, the Middle Eastern region, and the world.
On behalf of the Government and the people of the Maldives, the President extended condolences to the Government and the people of Dubai, and in particular to the Royal Highness’s family during this time of grief.
The deputy ruler of the emirate of Dubai, Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, died at the age of 75. Sheikh Hamdan had been unwell for a few months.
Sheikh Hamdan held the post of finance minister since his appointment in the first cabinet in 1971 upon UAE’s formation by the late ruler, Sheikh Zayed Al Nahyan.
