Minister of Tourism, Dr. Abdulla Mausoom has stated that 90% of the Tourism Industry frontliners have received the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.
He made the statement in an interview with CNBC International. During the interview, he spoke highly on providing safe tourism with minimum inconvenience amidst the pandemic. Hence that the safety assurance for the tourists, employees in the tourism industry as well the local community is set as a priority. Speaking on this note, the Minister stated that with the introduction of the nationwide Covid-19 vaccination rollout program, so far 90% of the Tourism Industry frontliners have received the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine.
"Almost 90% of the staff in tourism frontline, they have got their first dose," said Minister Mausoom.
Minister also stated that once everyone in the Maldives gets vaccinated, the Maldives plans to introduce the "3V Tourism" promotional program. The "Visit, Vaccinate, Vacation" initiative is expected to see more tourist arrivals in the country.
Speaking further on the topic of Covid-19 vaccination and the rising global vaccine shortage, the Minister reaffirmed that the Maldives will not have a vaccine shortage.
"We have got very good donations from India and China, and also we have got vaccines from the Covax program. We have enough supply for the resident's population. We have also placed some orders from Singapore. Once all these stocks are here we will have enough," said Minister Mausoom.
