Bangladesh is set to hold a mass vaccination campaign, as part of a special vaccination drive for the birthday of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, aiming to inoculate 8 million people with the first jab of the Covid-19 vaccine.

The campaign will be held on September 28, Health Minister Zahid Maleque said during a media call on Sunday.

During the drive, the vaccines will be inoculated at around 60,000 centers across the country, at 4,600 union councils, 1,054 municipalities, 443 wards under the city corporations. A total of 32,706 health workers will conduct the inoculation drive while 48,459 volunteers will assist them, the minister said.

Similarly, neighboring India administered more than 20 million Covid vaccine doses in a record-breaking effort to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 71st birthday.
