According to the Tourism Ministry, 572,123 tourists arrived in the Maldives as of July 20 last year. However, 900,808 tourists visited the Maldives during the same period this year. This is an increase of 57.5 percent.
The largest number of arrivals so far this year have come from India. The second largest number of tourists came from the UK. The third largest number of tourists came from Russia.
For the first six months of this year, more than 1 lakh tourists have arrived in the Maldives every month. The highest number of tourists arrived in March. 150748 tourists arrived in the month, according to the Ministry of Tourism.
Last year, 1.3 million tourists visited the Maldives and the government aims to bring in 1.6 million tourists this year.
