The previous governments of Maldives seemed to believe development, progress and basic services are for certain people. Back then it was believed that the arrival of the President on an island should be celebrated as a special occasion, where people of all ages should come out and dance and sing praises under the hot sun. It was also believed that clean water, sewerage systems, 24-hour electricity, health services, and good education are things the people have to beg the ruler for to get them, or they will have to vote a specific people to get those things, or the population of the island has to increase to a specific level.

Perhaps this has been the case because those who have ruled the country in the past have been from the capital Male'. Therefore in the previous governments, the other islands had been neglected. These islands did not get a taste true benefits of the state budget.

Hence the people of the islands are not afforded the basic rights that the constitution obliges the state to respect. It has been ages since they have been waiting to get a good education, healthcare, clean water, and sewerage systems. Basic rights and infrastructure development projects are carried out only in the capital city and on whichever island was chosen by the ruler.

Maldivians have seen the days in which people from the islands had to write letters before coming to Male'. There was a time when various islands were aided because of the kindness of a ruler. This topic can be spoken of at length so it shall be ended here to move to the main topic.

With a president from another island, an end to the neglect of other islands has come. It was a great hope for the people of the islands to get a president who had personally experienced their circumstances. He became the President who knows the condition of the islanders very well. He became a president who believes the people of the islands deserve clean water too. A president who believes islanders do not have to go to the capital when they need health care and higher education. A president who believes the people should not be confined to their islands.

True. The one who will know the condition of the islands would be someone who is an islander. President Ibrahim Solih could believe the condition of the islanders should change based on his own life experience. And so it happened. He brought revolutionary changes to the islands after getting elected with promises to not neglect any person or island.

Even if some people cannot believe this, this is the truth. Maldivians have seen various presidents rule the country. But unlike the previous presidents, the only president to advocate for the people of the islands and their right to get basic necessities, social and economic development, and getting the record for making it a reality is President Solih.

In the long history of rulers in the Maldives, only now have the people of the atolls gotten a leader who knows their experience. The aim of the president from the islands is to provide a way for the average islander to get the basic services the government owes them without it costing too much, and for their children to get a good education, food, healthcare, and wellness, growing up in good economic conditions, being able to get good jobs in the island after completing higher education with good wages.

The work to get the deserved rights of the people of the islands has been seen and felt by the people only now. With the ferry system of Raajje' Transport Link (RTL), an end has come to the travel woes of the people like the large prices and the difficulties faced in traveling from island to island. The people have broken free from island confinement. And as a result, businesses got benefited, a new life has been breathed into economic activities and the money entering the people's pockets increased.

A lot of the despondent, unemployed young people got more work opportunities thanks to the ferry system and they are now happy with their families. A great many infrastructure projects like harbor construction, land reclaiming, road development, and airport construction projects in various islands have been completed. And more are being carried out without a break.

It was President Solih's government that brought an end to age-old issues faced by islanders with old and dated powerhouses that caused noise and air pollution. It was President Solih's free degree program that brought an end to the difficulties faced by the islanders, to their begging and taking loans to fund their children's higher studies.

Hassanfulhube said now he doesn't face difficulties in providing his children with proper education. Neykurendhoo Ali said now no matter how ill his wife gets, there are no worries. He said that now President Solih has paved the way to go to Kulhudhuffushi regional hospital and come back every day. Hassan is now happy all the vegetables grown on his farm can be sold to the agro company. Madheeha's family is happy because they can clean themselves with clean water. People in the islands who were devoid of so many things like this before are now happy.

It is this government that brought smiles to the faces of teachers by raising their salaries. Now the conditions of teachers and their families have changed. Next are health care professionals. The state budget projected for next year includes the raising of the salaries of health care workers.

The aforementioned things are things that will change the living conditions of the people of the islands. The list is long. There is no doubt the aforementioned things are revolutionary changes for the people.

This is not something we say. This is the opinion of the people. The Maldives has truly experienced the benefits of a person from the islands getting the presidency. Along with the basic services, all the projects carried out and are still being carried out on the islands are there for all to see. And so the hearts of the people have been conquered by President Solih. True, the fact that support for his Excellency has grown in the islands with him shining ever brighter in the atolls, is the big picture of today.
