The High Court sentenced the Stepfather to 15 years for sexually abusing a kid.

Although the case was dismissed at a lower court in 2017, for insufficient evidence, the High Court sentenced Ibrahim Shujau, Five Star, Dh. Kudahuvadhoo, to 15 years in prison at the court hearing on Monday.

Shujau was charged under Article 9 (a) and (b) of the Special Provisions Act to Deal with Child Sex Abuse Offenders Act.

Judge Mohamed Niyaz, Judge Shuaib Hussain Zakariya, and Judge Abdul Rauf Ibrahim from the high court sat at the judging panel for the case at the High Court.

Article 9 (Sexual act carried out by a person in a position of trust):

(a) It is an offense for a person in a trustable position to a child, to engage in a sexual act with the child.
(b) Offence prescribed in (a) of this section shall be punishable with imprisonment for a period between 15 years and 18 years.
