Fisheries Minister Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan has stated that the Ministry does not record the amount of fish that are rejected in exportation.

Maafannu Central MP Ibrahim Rasheed (Bonde) questioned the Minister on the amount of fish rejected among the fish exported from Maldives. In today's Parliament sitting, the Minister's written response was read out.

The Minister said in his reply that the figures on rejected fish exports from the Maldives are not recorded by the Fisheries Ministry. He said that 70 percent of Maldives fish exports are to Thailand, per 2019's statistical reports.

Dissatisfied with the Minister's reply, Bonde said there was nothing else to look at to improve the economy if the rejection level of fish and export invoices were not recorded. Bonde noted that audit reports have revealed that hundreds of tonnes of fish had been rejected from Thailand's cold storage.
