Maradhoo MP Ibrahim Shareef has stated that Fikurehge Dhirun (Survival of an Ideology) is not an internal faction of MDP but a group that is trying to sabotage the party.
Referring to the Fikurehge Dhirun movement launched by former President Mohamed Nasheed within MDP, Shareef said it was in complete contrast to the factions that are formed within parties.
The Maradhoo MP accused Nasheed of trying to take revenge on the MDP general membership with this movement and break apart the party.
Shareef said if Fikurehge Dhirun was an internal faction of MDP, it will not try to subvert the party-led presidency, spread discord within the party and disrupt the party. Therefore, Shareef said those who wish well for the party should think about this.
After losing the MDP presidential primary to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Nasheed has formed a separate faction within the party and have been working with it. Shareef has described this as Nasheed not accepting the democratic decision of the party membership and proof that Nasheed only wants power.
Nasheed has announced that he will not support the MDP candidate in the presidential election.
