Former US president DonaldTrump has been seeking legal advice at Trump Tower in New York City as he gets ready to face historically significant criminal charges.

He has been under investigation over hush money paid just before the 2016 election to a porn star who says they had sex. He denies wrongdoing.

Authorities have strengthened security measures because they anticipate Tuesday's protests outside the Manhattan court to be violent.

Mr Trump, 76, is the first ex-US president to face a criminal case.

The charges he faces will be disclosed in full at the hearing, which is scheduled for about 14:15 local time (19:15 BST). His lawyers have already said he will plead not guilty.

At Manhattan district attorney Alvin Bragg's office, the former president is anticipated to be the first to surrender. Mr. Trump is taken into detention after being fingerprinted and processed by authorities. After that, he will be arraigned in court, where the charges will be read and he will enter a plea.
