Urbanco has stated that they have not distributed flats to senior employees and that the list that has been circulating is not valid.
In a press release issued today, Urbanco said the units offered for sale to employees are from four privately owned development projects in Hulhumale', offered to the corporation in exchange for the value of the land given to the corporation to implement the projects, as per the agreement.
According to Urbanco, these units were offered for sale under the "end-user finance model", under the staff housing scheme last year. The corporation said that 34 units were not sold as some employees left the units and some employees did not meet the requirements.
Urbanco said it has been one year since the staff housing scheme was launched last year, yet there are many employees who did not get a chance with that scheme. Therefore, the corporation has decided to open these 34 units for sale again as it needs to meet the value of its planned projects and commercial land with a new opportunity for the employees.
Urbanco said that more than 800 employees are eligible to purchase the 34 units. And that the units will be sold under a specific guideline, through a portal.
"An anonymous account is circulating on social media a fake memo and list of senior officials of the corporation along with the prices of units. This fake news is being created to defame the company," said Urbanco in their statement.
Urbanco's statement added that projects in Hulhumale', especially those related to the public, are designed to be as transparent as possible, following the rules and regulations. And that while the corporation's internal audit regularly monitors these activities, the corporation will fully cooperate with other relevant institutions who seek to monitor the activities.
Urbanco said it will always answer questions from the media and the public openly. And the corporation assured that it will not take any action that would infringe or deprive the citizens of any rights.
