The Election Commission has invited 15 countries to observe the September 9 presidential election.

The Election Commission has sent official invitations to 15 countries to observe the presidential election, Vice President Ismail Habeeb said today.

Georgia, the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, South Korea, South Africa, Kyrgyzstan and Honduras have been invited to observe the presidential election. Invitations have also been sent to the election authorities of Sri Lanka, Bosnia, Australia, Jordan, Canada, Japan and Nepal.

Election Commission Vice-President Ismail Habib said yesterday that if 150 people register to vote, ballot boxes will be set up in nine cities in eight foreign countries.

If 150 people register, polling stations will be set up in Trivandrum, New Delhi, Colombo, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, London, Bangkok, Abu Dhabi and Tokyo.

According to the Election Commission, 282,755 people are eligible to vote in this year's presidential election.

The presidential election will be held on September 9. If a second round of elections is required, the vote will be held on September 30.
