During the Civil Society Awards presentation ceremony, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih urged civil society groups in all islands to take charge in addressing matters affecting their community. Speaking at the Maldives Centre for Social Education (MCSE), President Solih stressed the importance of engaging in addressing social issues, emphasising that progress in different sectors would only be fully achieved if underlying social problems were tackled.

President Solih highlighted the need for decentralising the approach in addressing the various social issues across different regions of the country. He commended the significant role civil society organisations, including non-governmental ones, can play in this regard.

Furthermore, President Solih stressed that civil society can provide a positive contribution to mitigating climate change, protecting the environment, and tackling other social issues. He urged civil society organisations to focus on promoting environmental protection and addressing social issues as their primary objectives, while also encouraging the society at large to participate in the administration's efforts to phase out single-use plastics.

At the event, the President presented awards to outstanding Civil Society Awards recipients, while the Vice President launched the "Mees Portal," and First Lady Fazna Ahmed presented awards to the NGO grant recipients.

The introduction of the Civil Society Awards is a monumental occasion for the Maldives, meant to empower the society, encourage proactive participation by civil society, raise awareness of important social issues, and recognise the valuable contributions of civil society in community growth and development.
