President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has endorsed on Thursday the recommendations of the 'Gedhoruveriya (own a roof over your head) Committee' on the future course of action for the Binveriya (let people own land) - housing scheme.

The President’s Office said that President Solih made the decision considering his cabinet's recommendations and a careful evaluation of a paper submitted by the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure.

The Gedhoruveriya Committee is tasked with assessing and finalizing the list of qualifiers for flats and land plots under the government’s 'Binveriya' and 'Gedhoruveriya' housing schemes.

The President Office said on its website “the Binveriya housing scheme is the largest housing initiative undertaken in the country. It has received 15,164 applications from 23,088 individuals. The scheme aligns with the administration's commitment to providing housing and securing a life of dignity for all citizens”.
