However, speaking at the Republic day celebrations held separately by the southern atolls, former President and Speaker of the Parliament Mr. Nasheed has called to make a development plan within the four southern atolls separately.
Following Nasheeds remark, many have initiated discussions about the United Suvadive Republic, the Suvadive Islands which was a short-lived breakaway nation in the remote southern atolls of the Maldives. While some have raised concerns that this could create a negative impact on the unity of the nation.
