President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih says that he is confident that he will win the presidential election on 9th September by a wide margin in a single round.

President Solih made the comment on the possible outcome of the contest speaking to local media yesterday during a door to door campaign in capital Male’.

President Solih won his ongoing term in office in 2018 in a single round securing fifty-eight percent of all votes cast.

He won the presidency in 2018 under a coalition arrangement defeating former President Abdulla Yameen and hopes to repeat the feat once again in September.

“I’m confident on winning in a single round, Allah Willing”, President Solih told reporters yesterday.

President Solih told reporters that his presidential campaign teams are focusing on explaining in detail the achievements of his administration during the past four years and several months to the electorate as realities are distorted by his opponents.

He also said that many still have trouble in believing in the practical execution of the government’s “Binveriya” Housing Scheme which will grant land plots for living among other purposes to permanent residents of Male’ who had qualified for the entitlement. People should not be doubtful about the execution of the policy before this term ends, said President Solih.

In his door to door campaign activity for yesterday, President Solih visited households in the South Galolhu Constituency and was accompanied by MP Meekail Ahmed Naseem who represents the electorate at the People’s Majlis, Minister of Defence Mariya Ahmed Didi and other MPs and many ordinary members of ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
