The Elections Commission of Maldives (EC) publishes the final list of voters who are eligible to cast ballots in the presidential election.
On 9th September 282,395 citizens would qualify for participation in the voting. The final list of eligible voters is now available on the government’s gazette.
The list was finalized after all grievances filed against the commissions’ preliminary list of voters were addressed.
EC said that in the September election, 27,000 first-timers are eligible to join the ballot queues.
The commission urged all voters to check in advance the locations of their ballot boxes. EC said that to check the location of voting, a text message with the national identity card number typed in English could be sent to the toll-free number 1414.
Eight candidates are contesting in the presidential election this year. Five candidates are contesting on political party platforms and three independently.
EC said that there would be 574 polling stations for the election day.
