The Government of Maldives on Thursday awarded a contract to the American infrastructure company Structures Unlimited LLC to build 4,000 housing units in five regions across the country.

A portion of the 4,000 units would be built in Malé area and the remaining numbers spread over four other regions that experience housing shortages.

President Solih’s government is presently managing many other housing projects that include thousands of apartments across the country in addition to the units in the current award.

Fully state-owned Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) on behalf of the government of Maldives which awarded the contract to the American company said that the project would be completed in three years.

“An EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) contract has been signed between FDC and Structures Unlimited LLC of USA for the development of 4000 social housing units in Atolls and in Malé region”, tweeted FDC on Thursday.

Under the contract, Structures Unlimited LLC would build 1,000 housing units in Kulhudhuffushi City and 1,000 units in Laamu Atoll Gan. Addu City would get 750 units, Thinadhoo City 500 units, and 750 units in Malé City.
