In response to MDP members' comments on interrupting the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected President, Eydhafushi constituency Parliament Member Ahmed Saleem reassured that Dr. Muizzu's swearing-in ceremony will not be interrupted.

According to the MDP parliamentary group, the no-confidence motion against Parliament Speaker Nasheed should proceed as scheduled. MDP Parliamentary group also said yesterday that if Speaker Nasheed presides over President-elect Dr. Muizzu's swearing-in ceremony without proceeding with the no-confidence motion, members will not approve the new republican cabinet.

Responding to the MDP on the issue, PPM Parliamentary Group Leader MP Saleem said that it cannot be done that way even if the MDP says so.

"The swearing-in of the President-elect will not be interrupted," MP Saleem explained.

According to Article 114 of the Constitution, a person elected as President and a person designated as Vice-President must be sworn in at a session of Parliament before taking office.

The no-confidence motion was filed by the MDP in Parliament on October 8 with the signatures of 49 MPs. Notice of the matter has been sent to President Nasheed and members, and the matter will be scheduled for Sunday. The MDP has issued a three-line whip of no confidence in President Nasheed and asked its members to attend the session and vote.
