President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that the change of government has been smooth only this time.
In his Republic Day address today, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih said that since the introduction of the party system in the Maldives, the government has not changed by vote alone.
In the past, it has happened "by not just vote, but by court or from the streets," he said.
"This is the only time since the Maldives transition to a multi-party political system that the government transition has taken place smoothly," President Solih said.
