President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has pledged to make Island Aviation, which operates the national airline; Maldivian, a profitable and desirable service provider. He made the remarks while speaking at the inauguration of the megaproject to develop Velana International Airport and the economic zone.

Speaking at the ceremony, the President stated that the national airline, Island Aviation, is in a difficult situation today. However, with the major airport development project, Maldivian will become a profitable and desirable service provider for the people of the Maldives, said the President.

According to the President, the government wants to bring wide-bodied aircraft to the Maldives, fly to more destinations, expand the tourism industry, and increase arrivals.

"Bringing in wide-bodied aircraft, flying more to important destinations as we want, expanding the tourism industry to the level we want, increasing arrivals, is what we want to do. Work on this is also going very fast," said the President.

The President noted that the goal of every initiative the administration has planned is to provide the people with complete prosperity, success, and increased wealth.
