Maldives Meteorological Services have issued travel warnings from today evening onwards due to bad weather.

The travel advisory comes following the advisory warning of strong winds and rough seas in the Maldives starting Wednesday evening, as Cyclone ‘Burevi’ over southwest Bay of Bengal intensifies.

As per the Meteorological Services, the tropical cyclone ‘Burevi’ now lays approximately 200 kilometers to the east-southeast of Trincomalee in Sri Lanka and has intensified further. It is expected to move west-northwestwards and cross the Sri Lankan coast later this Wednesday.

In Addition, the low pressure formed southeast of the Maldives in the Indian Ocean has Intensified further.

The Meteorological Services has warned that the weather in the Maldives is expected to further deteriorate with strong winds and rough seas, in the next few days due to the combination of these two systems.

Maldives Meteorological Service has stated it will provide timely updates and have advised all to follow weather forecasts and alerts.
