Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal has expressed concern over the prospect of empty beds in the Maldives' tourism industry, stressing the importance of maintaining high occupancy rates. Speaking to state media, Minister Faisal announced that 2,600 new beds are expected to be added this year, but emphasized that these beds should not remain unoccupied.
Faisal noted that while the number of tourists visiting the Maldives typically decreases during this period, the decline has been less significant this year compared to previous years. To combat the seasonal dip, the minister revealed plans to boost tourist numbers during the low season next year, including increasing the budget for the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC).
“We are working to hold an investor forum in Thailand. We will be very prepared for next year's season,” Faisal stated. He highlighted that increased spending on tourism advertising would significantly enhance the industry's profitability.
The government has set an ambitious goal to attract 2.3 million tourists this year, reflecting a strong commitment to sustaining and expanding the Maldives' tourism sector.
