Government announced that the projects for land reclamation and road development for Addu, to be started at the end of the year.

An official of the government informed ‘Ras Online’ that the government will achieve its promises made to the people of the Maldives. As it is a dream of the people in Addu for modern developed roads, hence the project planned for road development for Addu, will be started at the end of the year.

Government has only sent the vehicles needed for the road development project, which was initially planned to start in April, but due to the pandemic, the start of the project was postponed. For this 134 million Dollar project, the government has partnered with the company GK development, and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the project to commence is almost complete.

Along with this project, the government will commence the project work of the 25 km road development and 228 hectares land reclamation project. The design and construction consultancy work of the project is handed over to L&T Infrastructure Engineering Limited and LEA Associates South Asia Pvt. Ltd.

Land reclamation project is also a promise made during the former presidency. In 2014, opposition presidential candidates running mate, Dr Mohamed Jameel, has said that land reclamation project for Addu will be one of the first projects started under Mr. Yameens presidency. People of Addu describe this as a beautiful dream which never came true.
