Renowned former national football team midfielder Mohamed Arif, affectionately known as Bakaa, has passed away while undergoing treatment at ADK Hospital's ICU.

His condition had suddenly worsened after returning to Malé from performing Hajj. Bakaa had traveled to Saudi Arabia under a special permit issued by King Salman bin Abdulaziz.

Bakaa was widely regarded as one of the most talented and exceptional midfielders in the country. He played a pivotal role in the Maldives' triumphant 2008 SAFF Championship title win, contributing significantly to the team's success. His passing is a significant loss to the national football community and the country at large.
