Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer has successfully concluded his official visit to the United States, departing from New York after a series of significant diplomatic engagements.

In Washington, D.C., Minister Zameer met with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, reaffirming the commitment to deepen the Maldives-U.S. partnership. Additionally, he held discussions with Samantha Power, Administrator of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID); Congressman Michael McCaul, Chairman of the House Committee on Foreign Relations; Congresswoman Young Kim, Chairwoman of the House Subcommittee on Indo-Pacific; and Congressman Ami Bera, Ranking Member of the House Subcommittee on Indo-Pacific. These meetings focused on mutual interests and collaborative efforts.

Minister Zameer also engaged in a discussion at the Council of Foreign Relations, outlining President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s government priorities and foreign policy. He met with the Maldivian community in Washington, D.C., addressing their concerns and sharing updates on government initiatives.

In New York, Minister Zameer held meetings with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs Li Jinhua, and Permanent Observer of the State of Palestine to the United Nations Dr. Riyad Mansour. He also interacted with tour operators, travel advisors, and Permanent Representatives to discuss tourism and diplomatic relations.

During his meeting with Secretary-General Guterres, Minister Zameer highlighted the Maldives' multilateral agenda and the importance of the progress made at the fourth International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS4). He discussed development challenges and potential collaboration with Under-Secretary-General Li, particularly in enhancing access to finance for development and climate adaptation.

Minister Zameer’s visit concluded with engagements with the Maldivian community in New York and New Jersey, where he addressed their concerns and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to resolving expatriate issues. He was seen off at John F. Kennedy International Airport by Ambassador Dr. Ali Naseer Mohamed, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Maldives to the United Nations, accompanied by Secretary Bilateral Dr. Hala Hameed and Senior Undersecretary Hassan Hussain Shihab.
